Paula & Dale

We departed California in 2000, and since we had sailed the “coconut milk run” back in 1984, we decided to explore a bit off the track this time.  We spent 2 years cruising Mexico, 2 years cruising Hawaii, and 5 years cruising/working in the Marshall Islands.  We then visited Vanuatu and New Caledonia before arriving in Bundaberg in Nov 2009.  We spent the next year cruising the QLD coast on our boat, land cruising in our 4WD camper.

While we were in the Whitsunday Islands last year we knew we wanted to find an affordable marina in the Brisbane area, so we decided to check out Newport Marina based on some comments made by other cruisers.  We heard that the rates are reasonable; it has a huge secure parking lot (a requisite for us); that the restroom/shower block is located central to all the docks; and that it has a large community clothesline area.

We arrived at Newport Marina in Oct 2009 and discovered our cruiser friends had been right on the mark to recommend the Marina to us.  They neglected to mention how quiet the location was.  Luckily there isn’t a dock with noisy tourists or a nearby yacht club bar with bad karaoke on the weekends. We’ve found the marina staff to be friendly and extremely helpful and we feel it’s a safe place to leave our boat unattended.

If a quiet, safe, and friendly marina environment is what you’re seeking, we can definitely recommend the Newport Marina.
